The women’s volleyball team, led by Head Coach Keven John and Assistant Kyle Pietrzak, have set their standards high and are ready to take the team further than last year.
The Lady Rams have brought some key players back, but Coach John has also been busy bringing in new talent to add strength, height, and depth to the team.
Luckily for the Rams, some incredibly talented players like Morgan Wigg, from Willow River, Minnesota, and Sienna Vitelli, from San Jacinto, California, have returned. The returning star, Wigg, was named Second Team All-Conference for the Appalachian Athletic Account (AAC) last year, scoring 236 kills, averaging 2.62 kills per set, and posting a .211 hitting percentage over the 2025 season.

The Bluefield Rams are generating significant excitement as they approach the upcoming season, with elevated expectations placing them fourth overall in the AAC conference. Last season, the Rams concluded with a 4-6 record, narrowly missing the playoffs. This year, the team features a number of young players stepping into key roles on the defensive side, including Zyron Kennedy, Jamari Williams, Tayveon Hill, and Casaun Henson. The presence of these young talents presents ample opportunities for development and the enhancement of their techniques and football intelligence.
In addition to the promising newcomers, the defense boasts several notable veteran players who are expected to make a substantial impact. These include Andre Plumber, Chase Harris, and Eli Padgett, all of whom bring valuable experience and leadership to the team.

Dr. Jason Craig began serving as Bluefield University’s newest provost on July 7, 2026. Dr. Craig brings experience in a myriad of areas including physical therapy, along with years of background in higher education as a student, professor, and senior academic leader. Since beginning at Bluefield University, Dr. Craig has brought new ideas and helped spur progress at our very own “lighthouse on the hill.”
Dr. Craig, who originally is from America, grew up and received his education in Northern Ireland. After earning his bachelor’s in physical therapy, he went straight to earning his research-based PhD through the same university, the University of Ulster. After around four and a half years of research, Dr. Craig earned his PhD and began teaching at his alma mater.

Dr. Jason Craig, the new provost at BU, has helped to implement policies and changes at the university while highlighting the student experience and caring for our student body. Dr. Craig dove headfirst into his new role and has plans for further action.
Rilla Copper, director of student success, recalls one of the first tasks Dr. Craig was involved in on campus: the reworking of the RAMS Life program, previously called Vocatio. In-person students at Bluefield University earn credit by participating in areas that can help a student grow in their education, as a believer, and as a person.

The men’s dormitory Rish Hall underwent extensive renovations during the summer, receiving new flooring, remodeled bathrooms, individual climate controls for each room, electrical upgrades, a new roof, and much more.
“From the outside, the brick is the same. But the windows and everything else you see is upgraded,” said Hal Keene, director of facilities and operations at Bluefield University. “I don’t think there’s any ceiling, wall, light, window, anything that you can walk inside the building and see that’s not brand new.”

The Bluefield University track team concluded its 2025–2026 season in stride at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament.
Each member of the team put their best foot forward in the final meet of the year. Dayson McMillian delivered personal bests in both sprinting events, finishing the 100-meter dash in 11.24 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.34 seconds. Shot put competitor Jaylen Holmes recorded a throw of 11.89 meters.

Bluefield University recognized its student-athletes during the school’s annual Rammies awards program, hosted this year at the historic Granada Theatre in downtown Bluefield, WV.
Designed to bring student-athletes, coaches, and the campus community together to honor outstanding leadership and achievement in sports, the Rammies celebrates individual accomplishments, team achievements, and memorable moments from the 2025-2026 athletic year.
