Question of the Week: Mega Millions Lottery
The national Mega Millions lottery jackpot recently climbed to $1.6 billion and the Powerball lottery reached $620 million. If you were to win either of the lottery games, how would you use the money?
“I personally wouldn’t enter. I do not gamble; however, if I did, I would put all of the money to helping in missions, to further spread the gospel in several places.” – Harleigh Stillwell, BC junior
“If I were to win the money for either of those things, I’d probably pay off my student loans first. I would help out my parents back home, buy gifts for my siblings I met from my biological father almost two months ago, because I already love them and they love me, and I just want to be a big brother to them for the rest of my life, because I was never there. I’d get my own restaurant and more art supplies. I’d probably get my own car so my mom won’t have to worry about me getting from one place to another. And last but not least, just probably save a little to hang out with my friends, to go somewhere and just have for a stress reliever.” – Austin Eatmon, BC junior
“There is so much I could do with that much money. I do know that I would start by tithing, paying for school, and buying a car. It would be fun to be able to help family and friends, as well as my community.” – Clara Blevins, BC sophomore
“I’d honestly donate half of it to Bluefield College, specifying chunks of it for use specifically on technology updates – new Macs and lab updates; new residence halls and residence renovations, such as Alumni Hall; departmental expansions, a School of Communication, and other growth-related developments over the years. The rest, I’d save and use when needed for both myself and the community. I can’t imagine I’d ever even be able to spend anywhere near that much on only myself.” – Ben Ayers, BC senior
“If I were to win either the Mega Millions or the Power Ball, I would mainly pay off all my (family’s) debt. Next, I would donate some of my favorite charities and nonprofit organizations. I would also donate some money to Bluefield College and my last school district. With whatever was left over, I would use to travel or save.” – Sahara Brewster, BC junior
