Question of the Week: What are your thoughts about BU financial struggles?

Sports communication • 2024

Bluefield University leaders are considering a number of personnel and academic program cuts in an effort to address a series of budget shortfalls. We asked students what they thought about the financial struggles and to share their views on the potential personnel and program cuts.

  • Chidubem Okwologu, Sports Medicine, 2025

I feel bad for those that are being affected and hope those that may have to go through it find workplaces as good as Bluefield.

  • Phil Bowden, Sports Medicine, 2024

I hope there aren’t any faculty cuts. Some students like the staff here, and it would be hard to let some go and I hope the financial situations straighten out.

  • Antferne Murray, Cybersecurity, 2023

In my opinion I don’t see why Bluefield has financial struggles when our tuition is through the roof.

  • Bodan N’dalla, Sports Management, 2024

In my opinion, I feel like all the money that they charge for our tuition is enough for them to not have any financial struggles.

  • Andrea Stinson, Sports Communication, 2024

I feel as though the university is being cautious and careful about spending to keep from closing. The amount of students attending Bluefield University has to increase in order to regain the financial status. The Athletic Department is a huge part of this campus so we have to continue our recruitment, but in a cautious way about how we can save the school money. The Bluefield University community has to work together in order to restore the ways we are accustomed to.
