Keene Family Donates Building to BU

Graphic Communication • 2024

The Keene family donated a $250,000 building to Bluefield University that was previously used as a carpet store located on Bluefield Avenue in Bluefield, West Virginia. The building’s approximate 2,000 square feet has since been repurposed with indoor court space, nets, goals, and floor markings to house tennis, pickleball, and local youth wrestling. The warehouse also hosts a large storage space where BU plans to store off-season equipment and items. There are also apartments above the main space, but these rooms are in need of some major repairs before they can be used.

While the main use of the building is athletics, this indoor space is open to all students to use to avoid bad weather for events. The building is also open to the community and hosts a local pickleball league that operates there frequently.
