Social Activities in Bluefield

Digital Marketing & Sports Communication • 2026

Bluefield offers a variety of social activities perfect for spending time with friends, enjoying family, or simply relaxing. Here’s a look at some of the top things to do around town.

1. Home Nights
The first fun social activity is right here on campus with Bluefield University’s Home nights. Home nights are community gatherings on campus that offer a warm and inviting atmosphere. They bring people together and are a more in-depth worship service than the weekly chapel service, which helps strengthen students’ relationships with God.

2. Sports Games
Sports are a big deal at BU, as well, since the student population is predominantly student-
athletes. Showing support for the Bluefield University sports teams brings people together.
Whether it’s one of the eight men’s sports or seven women’s sports, it will be a great time
to go and gather with friends while cheering on the Rams.

3. Mountaineer Bowling Alley
Off campus, the Mountaineer Bowling Alley in Bluefield, West Virginia, is the place to be for more
indoor fun. It’s perfect for hanging out with friends or family, whether knocking down pins
or playing pool.

“I really enjoy going bowling with friends on a weekend to keep my mind off things,” BU student Izabella Lechuga said. Mountaineer Bowling Alley is excellent for a little friendly competition with a side of fun.

4. Granada Theater
The Granada Theater in Bluefield, West Virginia, is like traveling back in time with the old-
fashioned vibes you feel there. You can catch a newly released movie, a live show, or a
community event. It’s an excellent choice for a cozy night out with friends and family
or on a date.

5. Dining Out
Bluefield has some good dining options, as well. The Railyard in Bluefield, West Virginia,
serves up delicious American comfort food along with great milkshakes. At the same
time, The Vault in Bluefield, West Virginia, offers a more refined menu with local
ingredients. For a laid-back or casual vibe, Macado’s in Bluefield, Virginia, has a big menu
and a fun atmosphere, perfect for casual meals with friends. Other local restaurants
include: El Patio, Culture and Shogun in Bluefield, Virginia, and Ole #3 and The Blue
Spoon in Bluefield, West Virginia.

“Shogun is a great choice when wanting to got out to eat” said Rachel Sasson. “It is fast and affordable for a college student.”

6. Mercer Mall
Mercer Mall is the go-to spot for shopping, additional dining, and entertainment all in one place. You
can shop, grab a bite to eat, and even visit their arcade. It’s a great choice for an easy-going
day out, especially if the weather isn’t great for outdoor activities. Some stores include
American Eagle, Rue 21, JCPenney, Belk, and Hobby Lobby.

7. Fishing
Bluefield’s surrounding areas offer peaceful fishing spots if you’re a fan of the outdoors for your social activities. Student Eric Boyd has been a big fan of fishing since he was young, and he tells us that he has found some excellent places surrounding Bluefield.

“I enjoy Falls Mills on a nice sunny day.” Boyd said. “It is a great spot with a lot of variety, especially for beginners.”

8. The Overlook
Visiting the East River Mountain Overlook is a good idea for beautiful views. It’s a great
place to watch the sunrise or sunset, take photos, or enjoy the beauty of the Appalachian
Mountains. This spot is perfect to relax and take in the scenery.
