Best Places to Eat in the Bluefield Area

Sports Management + Sports Communication • 2024

Greater Bluefield has a variety of exceptional restaurants and an assortment of unique places to dine. All throughout Bluefield and the surrounding area, you will find a one-of-a-kind place to eat. Whether a date night, lunch, or just grabbing a bite with friends, you can always find an outstanding place to eat with an original and exciting experience.

A restaurant extremely close to campus and highly recommended is Macado’s, which is located on Commerce Drive just down the road from the Bluefield University campus. The Macado’s menu includes a variety of great choices, such as subs, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, wings, quesadillas, and other popular entrees. Wing Night on Thursday nights, which features boneless wings for just 39 cents each, is a great time to visit Macado’s.

Another excellent restaurant that is highly recommended and nearby to campus is Shogun, a Japanese/Thai restaurant located on Commerce Drive. Shogun’s menu includes sushi, hibachi, soups, salads, and more. The atmosphere makes it a great experience if you are trying to have a great meal with friends and family.

A third popular restaurant close to campus is El Patio, a Mexican restaurant also located on Commerce Drive. El Patio has all of the traditional Mexican cuisines, and its environment is also very pleasant.

If you are a fan of Mexican food and you don’t mind traveling further away from campus, Campestre Mexican Bar & Grill in Princeton, West Virginia, is highly recommended. Its food is delicious, and the atmosphere is amazing. It is a must try at some point in your four years at Bluefield. It has mostly the same menu El Patio has, but more at the same if not cheaper price. Campestre is located on Greasy Ridge Road in Princeton.

Another great restaurant in Princeton is Dolly’s Diner, a retro-styled diner located on Oakvale Road across Route 460 from Campestre. In fact, Dolly’s Diner was named to “The Top 12 Retro Diner’s in the South” by Southern Living magazine. The menu includes an assortment of great breakfast foods, salads, burgers, hoagies, wraps, and a variety of home-style meals. If you are looking for an experience and an environment that is much different to anything else around, then Dolly’s Diner is the place.

If you are looking for a special experience and environment, but retro is not your thing, Cuz’s Uptown Barbecue is the place for you. Cuz’s is a local favorite, but it is more expensive. Its menu features a variety of southern cuisines, including barbecue, steak, seafood, specialty pizza, and more. Cuz’s is located off of U.S. Route 460 in Pounding Mill, Virginia, about 35 minutes from campus.

A new personal favorite is Bee Noodle’d on Main Street in Tazewell, Virginia. This little restaurant opened this summer and is the best Italian restaurant between Bristol and Blacksburg. The experience they offer is outstanding, and the food is amazing. Their menu includes mostly any type of pasta that you could think of, excellent appetizers, and they also sell local honey. Be sure to check their hours before going as they are still just considered a startup so their hours may vary based on the week.

If you are looking to stay more within the Bluefield area, The RailYard in downtown Bluefield, West Virginia, on Raleigh Street comes highly recommended. The RailYard’s menu consists of burgers, specialty sandwiches, salads, wraps, milkshakes, and much more. The environment there is great, and they even oftentimes offer different event nights throughout the week, which is a great way they get customers to interact within their environment.

Another outstanding restaurant, but by far the most expensive on this list is The Vault Downtown in downtown Bluefield, West Virginia. The Vault is a fine dining and high-quality cuisine restaurant and requires a reservation to dine. If you are looking for an expensive date night, then The Vault is your place. The Vault’s menu includes steaks, seafood, pasta, salads, and much more, and is located on Federal Street in Bluefield.

If you are into history but also love great food, the Bramwell Corner Shop & Soda Fountain in Bramwell, West Virginia, comes highly recommended. If you have been around the Bluefield area, you will know that Bramwell is one of the most historic towns in the two Virginias. The Corner Shop is an icon in the area, and their food is exceptional, as well. Their menu includes hand-patted burgers, pulled pork, paninis, pepperoni rolls, salads, soups, homemade ice cream, and much more. The Corner Shop is located on Main Street in Bramwell.

No matter where you go in the Bluefield area, you can always find a great place to eat as the area features a variety of excellent restaurants to dine. You can always find a unique and one-of-a-kind place to eat at as long as you know the right places to go.
