Question of the Week: BC’s Transition to E-textbooks

Communication • 2022

Starting next semester, Bluefield College will be transitioning from printed textbooks to electronic textbooks. The e-books will be on iPads, which the school will be providing to all students. Since this type of change will affect students directly, we thought we’d ask them, “What are your thoughts about moving from printed textbooks to e-textbooks?”

  • Devon Robinson, Criminal Justice, 2023

I think it would be a great convenience in the sense that we could do more with e-books.

  • Alvaro Grande, Criminal Justice, 2024

I feel that it would be very helpful to students who have more than one book for one class since they wouldn’t have to carry all of the books.

  • Farah Schweers, Criminal Justice, 2021

I think it’s good for the environment, but for me personally, I do not like reading on screens.

  • Katharina Zausek, Business, 2022

Students will definitely benefit from the experience on an IT level, and students will enjoy having the books all with them at all times. They will enjoy not having to go to the library anymore or having to carry books.

  • Samantha Dickens, Exercise and Sports Science, 2021

It doesn’t benefit students that have learning disabilities because it’s easier for them to understand with a book in front of them.
