Theatre Students Present Cabaret Talent Showcase

Communication and Theatre • 2020

The Bluefield College Theatre Department presented a cabaret talent showcase on March 24 at 7 p.m. in Harman Chapel, which was also live-streamed online.

The cabaret combined different styles of theatre, including skits, monologues and musical numbers from well-known theatre productions, including Carousel, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Dear Evan Hansen and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

“This show is unique in that all aspects are being led by students,” said theatre student Christina Robinson, “but anyone is welcome to come and enjoy the show.”

The theatre showcase was the first live theatre production in almost a year. It allowed theatre students to showcase their talents and perform live following COVID protocols.

“I’m really looking forward to the first live theatre event in a year,” Staley Lyle said.

“I am personally looking forward to putting on a show since we haven’t been able to do one in a while,” Robinson said. “I love seeing everyone’s hard work come together and flourish in the live show.”

The members of cast include Robert Walls, General Smith, Abigail McComas, Brian Fisher, Fletcher Lowe, Ian Matullo, Nina Hairston, Noah Jennings, Robinson and Lyle.

“When a group of talented, hard workers come together there is always magic to do,” Walls said.
