Bluefield College to Host Christian Emphasis Week

Communication • 2022

Beginning October 14, Bluefield College will be hosting Duremdes Christian Emphasis Week with Christian author and speaker Nigel Darius.

Sessions will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in Harman Chapel with publicly viewable live streams on the Bluefield College Campus Ministries YouTube channel.

Class schedules have been adjusted to allow all students to participate. Additionally, chapel credits can be earned at each session.

This week, in the words of President Olive, “calls upon those of us who are Christ followers to be mindful of our faith commitments and challenges us to know God more intimately and boldly love and serve others in Jesus’ name.”

Drs. Gene and Jane Duremdes have made this event possible since 1992. They feel led to share their blessings from the Lord with Bluefield College by sponsoring Christian Emphasis Week, which is an opportunity for students to contemplate spiritual matters and life-changing questions.

Darius, author of Humanity’s Table, said the importance of this week is “to understand the magnitude of our faith journey with Jesus.” Specifically, he said, he hopes to demonstrate to BC students their purpose and identity and what it means to love like Jesus does.

Darius is a writer, an artist, and the founder of Remnant Group, an organization that strives to enrich lives with fellowship and community. He said he is excited to teach, serve, and encourage the students at Bluefield College.

“(My hope for this week) is that important decisions are made, lives are changed, and we live more fully and abundantly in God’s love and grace,” Dr. Olive said. Dairus added that he is praying for each student to realize their value in God’s eyes.
