New VP at BC

Graphic Communication • 2020

Bluefield College recently welcomed a new vice president to the BC family. Joshua Hood, who previously served as director of admissions and vice president for enrollment management at Bryan College in Dayton, TN, has joined the administrative staff as the new VP for enrollment management.

Hood graduated from Bryan College in 2001 with a degree in psychology becoming a first generation college graduate in his family. He later earned a master’s degree in human services counseling in 2014 from Liberty University, and before beginning his career in higher education he worked in business, running a small business and working for Fortune 500 companies.

“I believe he will bring vision and a steady hand to our student recruitment and engagement work,” said BC president Dr. David Olive. “The timing is perfect as we begin our new relationship with VCOM (Via College of Osteopathic Medicine) and to envision how to maximize the benefit of this partnership to further drive our enrollment.”

Hood began his work with BC in April, and as the new VP for enrollment management he has been charged with overseeing the recruitment strategy of all students. He will supervise the offices of Traditional Admissions, Online Admissions, Financial Aid, and BC Central. He said he is very excited to get started and hopes to have a lasting impact on the college. Specifically, he said he hopes to “help students understand their life calling
and become compassionate, globally-minded servant leaders.”

“Joshua brings a wealth of knowledge to our BC community,” said Matt Hamilton, director of traditional admissions. “Being he previously served as the director of admissions at a very similar-sized school, he brings new innovation and ideas that will mesh well into our current processes within our enrollment management operation.”

Currently, Hood said his goal is to react to the challenges of COVID-19 while meeting enrollment goals for this fall. His long-term goal is to establish a strategic marketing plan that creates a multi-year structure for recruiting to the college’s programs and majors.

“My goal is to support my team members with prayer, encouragement, professional development, and the desire that God uses us to bless the ministry of Bluefield College,” Hood said.

In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors, playing tennis, and spending time with his wife, Shayla, and their five children, JT, Emmie, Zola, Piper, and Ty.
