Creed Lumpp: Wrestler Spotlight
Bluefield College wrestler Creed Lumpp finished his junior season with the Rams as the second best wrestler in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) 157-pound division, which earned him a bid to compete in the NAIA National Tournament, just the second ever national qualifier in wrestling in BC history.
Originally from Christiansburg, VA, Lumpp participated in the NAIA National Tournament in early March in Wichita, KS. His first match was a rematch of the AAC 157-pound championship finals match. Unfortunately, he fell 6-7 to Nolan Saxton of Reinhardt College. However, later in the day he defeated Jimmy Talavera of Southern Oregon by pin within the first five minutes of the match.
Lumpp finished with a overall 27-6 record on the year. As a team, the Rams finished fourth in the AAC Tournament held earlier in the year. Many other wrestlers earned third and fourth place finishes to accompany Lumpp’s second place medal.
Bluefield College recently added wrestling to the host of sports that it offers. Under coach Jason Waelti, the Rams have enjoyed early success and continuously are able to compete with established NAIA programs all across the country.
