Question of the Week: How Safe Do You Feel on Campus?
Campus safety is a hot topic on college campuses. That’s why we asked Bluefield College students, “How safe do you feel on the BC campus?”. Below are their responses.
-
Kassidy Brown, Communication
“I feel somewhat safe because I know most of the people, but in the same sense I don’t because I know if something was wrong, Campus Safety wouldn’t do anything about it.”
-
Mason Jefferson, Criminal Justice
“I feel very safe. I’ve been been here for three years now, and I’ve never felt any safer.”
-
Jakobi Montgomery, Graphic Communication
“I feel safe to a certain extent. Like if it really came down to it, I would have to rely on myself to get to safety because the security here hasn’t shown me how safe this campus is.”
-
Aynae Simmons, Communication
“I do not feel safe on campus because they are told to give tickets instead of keeping us safe. So they spend their time doing unimportant things. I also don’t think arming them is the best option. It’s either we all carry or no one carries.”
-
Emily Carlisle, Communication and Graphic Communication
“This is a tough question. I feel safe most of the time, especially because I grew up here and I’m very used to the people and culture here. I have never felt unsafe on campus, and for that I am very thankful, but I have noticed a growing amount of our female students being followed out in the community. Last week a friend and I went to Walmart and were followed by a car, and when we lost him he was actively searching for us. So the campus being so close to the community and being stalked being a growing issue is becoming a growing concern to me.”
