Students Express Additional Concerns during SGA Forum
Bluefield College’s Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its second open forum of the fall semester, October 22, designed to give students the opportunity to voice their concerns about problems or issues with the school.
Attendance for the second forum was lower than the first held in September, but those who did attend were still very vocal. Members of the college’s administration also attended to respond to concerns and to share possible solutions. The topics ranged from student development to academics to athletics.
Hosted in Harman Chapel at a later time in the evening to accommodate all students, the event started with the administration giving updates on what has been done around campus regarding concerns expressed during the first forum.
“The updates that some of the administrators gave were helpful,” said the SGA. “It allowed students to see that they’re actually trying to do something instead of just saying ‘we hear you.'”
For the remainder of the forum, students came to the podium to state their individual complaints. New issues were mentioned in addition to those that had not been addressed from the first forum. The SGA plans to contact the students who still need to know who to contact regarding their issue.
The SGA also plans to host a third forum in the near future, but will focus on one topic during that forum so that administrators can concentrate on solutions in just one area.
Students who you have questions, comments or concerns are encouraged to contact SGA by email at studentgovernment@bluefield.edu. The SGA meets every Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the third floor lyceum in the Science Center.
