Update 2.4

Graphic Communication • 2019

Welcome to all new Bluefield College students, and welcome back to those returning for another great semester! We at the Rampage hope you enjoy the update and look forward to some of the great new features we have in store for you in the coming months. If you’re interested in being a part of the Rampage family this year, let us know at editor@bcrampage.com.

This update brings dark mode to all users and fixes a series of display bugs across the Rampage.

What’s New?

  • New Features
    • Dark Mode. Eye bleeding at night begone! All users (with or without an account with us) running a compatible system can now use a dark appearance for the Rampage if the device is set to use a dark appearance.

While we are choosing to support this feature with the release of iOS and iPadOS 13 in the near future, dark appearance support on the web is still in its infancy. Check below to see what software is supported as of these update notes. The Rampage will continue to support browsers and OSs that do not support dark appearances.
      • Supported Operating Systems
        • Windows 10 Update 1903 or newer
        • MacOS Catalina 10.14 or newer
        • iOS 13 or newer
        • iPadOS 13 or newer
        • Android Pie 9.0 or newer
      • Supported Browsers
        • Safari (MacOS, iOS, and iPadOS)
        • Chrome (Desktop)
        • Firefox (Desktop and Android)
    • Magazine Rack. Past and future physical editions of The Rampage’s magazine will now be available on online. Browse each section and features articles, then view the beautiful magazine design right on your screen, mobile or desktop. More features will be added to the magazine rack as more magazines release.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed a bug that caused The Rampage‘s home page to be unresponsive in newer versions of Firefox. (Unfortunately, I cannot fix Google’s algorithm believing Firefox has anything to do with bundt cakes).
    • Adjusted the colors on some mobile card layouts to better match Dark Mode.
    • Fixed an issue where the text on buttons in Dark Mode were the same color as the background.
    • Adjusted the coloration of the “Miscellaneous” category for legibility and contrast in both Light and Dark Mode.
    • Adjusted the border display on some blocks for better responsiveness.
    • Organized CSS for Dark Mode to prevent several potential issues.
    • Fixed an issue with update note mobile cards that caused text color to not translate between appearance modes.
    • The Rampage Apple News channel has been retired.
  • Known Issues
    • Mobile cards are missing for some new categories.
    • Author page opinions lack formatting.
    • Parallax illustrations cannot be made live from May through August until iOS 13 releases.

Update 2.4.1

  • Bug Fixes
    • Again, fixed an issue with pinned update note mobile cards that caused text color to not to be legible on certain appearance modes. *Grumble* Stubborn CSS priorities *Grumble, grumble*

Update 2.4.2

  • Changes
    • Header images are now a higher resolution.

Update 2.4.3

  • Features
    • Poetry. A “Poetry” category has been added, and can be found just below Artwork. Submissions can currently be sent to us at editor@bcrampage.com, and can be submitted online in the future.

What’s Next?

We like to be transparent on what features we’re working on next and their status. While these may not have set “release dates,” you can expect most of them to release within the next few months. If you have any suggestions for new features or updates you would like to see, let us know! Email us at editor@bcrampage.com or leave a comment below.

  • Category Pages. Delayed from summer, every category page will receive a unique layout this fall, showing all your favorite articles in a clean and beautiful format.
  • Article Sidebar Content. Articles will soon have sidebars with related content, related posts, and other helpful links. Authors will have full control over most sections shown on the sidebar on their articles.
  • Archives. Like Category Pages, the archives will soon have a unique and easy-to-use design to view and search past articles.
