FAQ

Below you will find the answers to the common questions we get asked about The Rampage. We have put together this list to give you more information about how we operate. If you don’t find the answer to your question, submit it using the form at the bottom of this page and we will be happy to answer it!

Accounts

  • Can I login with my BU account?

No. Our system is separate from the Bluefield University one, so you will need to make a new account with us to access certain features of The Rampage.

  • Why do I need an account?

The Rampage has accounts for several different reasons. The main reason non-journalists need an account is because it opens a lot of interaction options up, especially for students. The table in the next section breaks down what those interactions are. Our journalists need an account to submit their articles. Another reason we have accounts is to prevent spam. Anyone without an account can only read our articles, which prevents spam comments and other forms of spam.

  • What can I do with an account?

Different types of accounts have different abilities. Below is a basic rundown of what each role can do:

    Role
    Articles
    Poetry
    Artwork
    Opinions
    Comments
    Like Posts
    *Internship Listings
    Student
    Alumni
    Staff/Faculty
    Journalists

*Editor’s Note: the Internship Listings page is an on-going project. It is not yet up.

Note to students: Your role will change to alumni upon graduation, but your posts from your time with a student account will not disappear.

Note to journalists: Your role will change once you are no longer an active contributor to The Rampage or you graduate. Your posts from your time with a student/journalist account will not disappear.

  • Who can have an account?

Journalists are required to have an account, but we also have accounts for students, faculty/staff, and alumni. We are also looking at potentially adding parent accounts at some point.

  • How do I make an account?
Go to our user registration page and fill out the form there. If you are faculty or staff, we have a separate registration form here. These forms are super easy and only take a few minutes to complete.
Note: We do not currently have an alumni account form. Based on the class year you enter, we will correct your role.
  • Adding a Photo

Adding a photo to your account is highly recommended. When choosing a photo, pick one in which your face will be seen whether it is in square or circle format.

Once you make an account, you can login and in the right hand corner it will say “Howdy (insert your name).” If you click on this, you will be taken to your account settings where you can edit your profile. If you scroll down, you will find the select image option. You do not need to use gravatar for this, there is another option further down. Choose browse and upload a photo from your computer. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit update profile. Once you do that, you can check that your picture is displaying correctly by going to your profile page at https://bcrampage.com/article/author/(your user name here)/

  • Add a Bio

In the same place you can edit your photo, you can also add a bio. This will display on your author page. It is a way to tell us a little bit more about you. What do you like? What are some of your hobbies? Where are you from? All of these things can be included in a bio. A bio can be as short as a few words and as long as you want.

Note: We do recommend not including time sensitive information (such as class or age) since your bio will be displayed on the site as long as your account exists. Also, you don’t need to repeat your name or major since this already displays on the author page.

We reserve the right to edit your bio as necessary.

Submissions

  • Am I able to contribute to The Rampage, even though I am not a communication major?

YES! We welcome all majors to contribute to the student newspaper.

  • What types of things can I submit?

One you have an account, you can submit artwork, poetry, opinions, and comments. We are currently working on adding to this list, so if you have any suggestions let us know.

  • Can I submit an article if I am not a Rampage writer?

Yes, you can. If you want to write an article and you are not part of a class that writes for The Rampage, you can contact us at editor@bcrampage.com. Our faculty advisor will get in contact and let you know what the steps are.

  • How do I submit something?

For most submission types, when you are logged into your account, fill out the submission form. It asks for a title, what type of content it is, the text/content, and an image. Depending on what you are submitting, these will display differently. Below is what is required for each submission type:

    Submission Type Title Text Image
    Artwork
    Opinion
    Poetry

  • I submitted something, now what?

The submitted posts are put in pending review where the faculty advisor or student admin looks over them before sending them to an editor for posting. This may take a few days or it might be instantaneously approved – it depends on how busy the team is at the time.

Comments are submitted by filling out the form on the post which you wish to comment on. Submitted comments will be approved by a student admin or faculty advisor before displaying on the post.

We do this mostly to prevent spam from being posted, but we are also checking to see if the post is consistent with our values.

Sponsors

  • Who can be a sponsor?

Any individual or business can be a sponsor.

  • How do you become a sponsor?

Contact us at editor@bcrampage.com for information on how to become a sponsor.

  • Where do I find a list of The Rampage’s sponsors?

We have a list of sponsors in the sidebar on our about page.

Miscellaneous

  • How do I find specific authors and their work?

You could search the authors name using the search bar located on the top right of the website. If you can find one post by the author, you can click on their name or the read more button under their bio and it will take you to their author page.

If you are looking for a list of your posts, you can find it on your author page. To find that, either click your name on one of your posts or go to https://bcrampage.com/article/author/(your username here)/

  • How do you find older stories?

Our archives are currently undergoing a redesign, but when they are done that will be where you will find older stories. If you are looking for a specific post, use the search bar.

  • Can I save an image found on The Rampage?

    Technically, yes.

  • How can I locate related stories within The Rampage website?

Posts have up to three related stories in their sidebar. You can also find related stories under the same category or by clicking on one of the post tags (also found in sidebar). You can also search keywords in the search bar.

  • How can I access a list of every story posted on the Rampage?

We do not currently have a list of every post on our site. We are working on our archive page, which is where posts are sorted by month and year.

If you are looking for a list of your posts, you can find it on your author page. To find that, either click your name on one of your posts or go to https://bcrampage.com/article/author/(your username here)/

  • Can I take any surveys or quizzes on the Rampage website as a way to share my opinion?

We do not currently have any surveys or quizzes on The Rampage. If you want to share your opinion you can submit it using our submissions page.

Not a bad idea though, we might just have to add that option in the future!

  • When is the next magazine coming out?

As of today, we are trying to have two magazine issues a semester. The first issue of the semester should come out around midterms and the second issue right before finals.

  • Can I get class credit for being a part of the team?

Yes, you can. The Rampage has many roles beyond the visible ones. Speak to your advisor and see what they say.

  • What are the update notes about?

In update notes you will find a breakdown of the most recent update, a list of known issues with the website, and plans for future updates.

Didn’t find the answer to your question?

  • Contact us and we will do our best to answer it!
