Bluefield University’s men’s soccer team fell to Truett McConnell University 5-0 on Saturday, October 24, at the TMU Soccer Complex in Cleveland, Georgia, as the Rams were unable to overcome an early deficit against one of the top teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Truett McConnell took control in the first half, scoring twice in a three-minute span. Jovica Lazarevic opened the scoring in the 22nd minute off an assist from Nacho Vaquero, before Pablo Farrona doubled the lead in the 24th minute, with Nick Jeising providing the assist.

Bluefield entered halftime trailing 2-0 and looked to get back into the match after the break. However, the Bears extended their advantage in the second half, adding three more goals to secure the shutout victory over the Rams.

Roman Reynolds scored twice for Truett McConnell, finding the net in the 62nd and 69th minutes. Jeising assisted on Reynolds’ first goal, while Carlos Ruiz set up the second. Thomas Hill capped the scoring in the 79th minute off a pass from Hector Herraiz.

Despite the loss, Bluefield senior goalkeeper Canaan Newman recorded nine saves while facing 20 shots from the Bears, including 14 on target. His efforts helped limit Truett McConnell’s scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

Offensively, Leo Bascope led the Rams with three shots, including one on goal. Sebastion Armijos added two shots, while Owen Vang recorded one shot on target. Bluefield finished with six total shots and two shots on goal, while Truett McConnell held an advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.

The Rams fell to 2-12 overall and 0-10 in conference action, while the Bears improved to 10-2 on the season and 9-1 in conference, ranking second in the AAC.

Bluefield will host Union Commonwealth on Wednesday, October 28, at East River Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
