Joslyn Evans Focuses on Building Community

Bluefield University has added a new staff member to its student development team, but she’s no stranger to BU. A former volleyball player for the Rams, alumna Joslyn Evans graduated last year and has returned to serve as the director of student activities.
“Bluefield has become a home for me because of the connections I have built,” Evans said. “Students, staff, and faculty alike have made Bluefield a great place where I can find support and mold into a person I never thought I could be.”
Although the position of student activities director is new for the university, Evans has drawn great support for the activities from many students.
“I talk with anyone and everyone I can to get the word out about the events that are taking place,” Evans said. “We also try to incorporate little gifts or food within the events to drum up more engagement.”
Evans is very outgoing, and she understands what gets traction on campus. Little gifts or food are one sure way to increase event participation. Although people attending events is great for Evans and her position, it is not her ultimate goal.
“My vision for student activities is to build a stronger community,” Evans said. “I would like to see people coming to events, but more importantly being able to build strong relationships. I also want students to have a variety of things to do. Bluefield is a small town with little to do sometimes. Student activities offer on-campus students a chance to get out of their room and be with others while having some fun!”
Evans puts her all into ensuring students always have a home and something to help students build relationships outside of everyday life. Evans’ office is located in the Student Activities Center, and her door is always open.
