The Bluefield University women’s basketball team is about to start its 2025-2026 season, and the Lady Rams hope to make some noise, thanks to the return of a solid group of veteran seniors.
“Having six seniors is a blessing,” Coach Jake Wright said. “They’ve done an amazing job of creating a great learning environment for the newbies.”
Among the returning seniors are guards Ashanti Northcross, Ahmiah Jordan, Elle Gunter, and Najah Ghani-Perryman. The Lady Rams also return two key seniors who play in the post: Gabriela Rosado and Annalee Woodson.
“Coach Wright’s first year here was really about establishing the culture of the program and team,” Gunter said. “Now that we have an established culture, we can really compete in conference.”
Now in his second season at Bluefield, Coach Wright said improving on last year is going to require paying attention to the “little things.”
“Last year we were able to finish on a strong note the last couple of weeks,” Wright said. “For us to keep improving our family and gain momentum, it starts with focusing on the little things.”
Joining the veterans on the team are a number of transfers and freshmen. One of the transfers looking to make some noise is junior guard Chloe Shields from New Jersey. Other new faces on the team include guards Abby O’Quinn, Charli Wynn, J’Maia Joseph, and several others.
“The goal for this team is to continue to rebuild our family,” said Wright. “This will get us back on the right path to make the conference tournament, which will then allow us to make an even bigger splash.”
The Lady Rams’ first home game of the season will be Saturday, November 15. Follow live coverage of BU road games online at burams.com.
