A native to the area, Isaiah Bandy grew up only 30 minutes away from Bluefield University. Although it was not his dream school when he was younger, Bandy has made Bluefield University and Rams football his home for the past three years.

“Isaiah is a great guy,” said fellow football player Kyree Edwards. “He shows up every day with a great attitude, and he truly wants this team to succeed. He always brings a great energy to the team and campus as well.”

Bandy is from Richlands, Virginia, a town known for its impact in the coal mining industry. In fact, Bandy himself has personal connections to the profession. His grandfather, father, and brother have all worked in the coal mines throughout their lives.

“Growing up, it was always very powerful to see the hard work my family has put into the dying industry,” Bandy said. “I’ve always had a huge respect for my family and the industry that they are a part of. It is a very tough profession that not many people can do.”

However, Bandy wants to blaze his own trail.

“I’ve always wanted to be around sports,” Bandy said. “I am a sports medicine major, and I believe that will set me up for a career in athletic training.”

Bandy, a junior, has made himself recognizable through campus activities. On Monday nights, he attends Home events. He is also a big supporter of BU’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and has made a name for himself on the football field.

“Being the kicker is rewarding,” Bandy said. “Having waited my time behind a great kicker before me, it is very meaningful to me to have an impact on the game and team as well. I love the team, and I want to do everything I can to make sure we are successful.”
