Bluefield University Student Ministries (BUSM) has seen many students commit their lives to serving Christ this semester, and they believe that it is important to have space and time to foster that important decision. That is what Abide is for; it is a space for students to come and grow deeper in their relationship with Christ, along with a community of like-minded believers.

BUSM Worship Leader Amelia Garrett shared that she and Campus Pastor Mason West organize Abide, but it is a shared effort among the BUSM and Worship teams.

Garrett shared that it is their own version of a “prayer room.” Garrett stated, “It’s just so nice to gather together and just worship the Lord, intercede where we need to, and to pray over our campus.”

Garrett also stated, “We always pray over specific burdens on campus, specific needs in our nation, and things that we feel in our heart the Holy Spirit gives us impressions about what people need to hear in the room.” Most importantly, it is “intimate time with the Lord with community,” Garrett shared.

Garrett shared her hopes for this semester of Abide, “I’m hoping that we just continue to grow in numbers as laid-down lovers for Jesus and intentional people that just want to come and spend time with Him.”

Garrett also shared that she believes that Friday morning is the perfect time for Abide because “it is the end of the week and we are all tired, cranky, and disappointed about some tests.”

Garrett continued, “Whenever the first thing that you do with your day is to worship Jesus, it sets the standard for everything else that you do.”

Abide is open to the community and not limited to just students and staff. There is no agenda; it is whatever the Holy Spirit wants to do.

“We are giving up an hour of our day that we could be doing anything else and just running after Jesus,” Garrett stated.

Abide will take place every Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Student Activities Center, beginning October 31. Watch your emails and the BUSM social media for updates about any changes to the schedule.
