Team Goals

The Bluefield University men’s soccer team enters the 2025 season with high expectations and a clear goal: to make the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament. With a talented mix of leaders and impactful newcomers, the Rams believe they have the pieces to push for a top-half finish in the league.

Assistant coach Ian Sumrall noted that the team has focused on growth across the board since last season.

“We are looking to improve in all areas of the game from last season,” he said. “Scoring goals is something we have been working on a lot in training.”

Key Returners & Newcomers

Leading the way for the Rams are two key returners—captain and center back Kendell Britt, who anchors the back line, and striker Juan Soto, a proven scoring threat up top. Their experience and leadership will be vital as the team navigates a competitive conference schedule.

The roster also features several newcomers who are already making their mark. Freshman Adan Chavez has been a breakout star, tallying five goals in the first five games to tie for second most in the conference. Fellow freshman Landon Puckett has provided energy and consistency in the midfield, while junior transfer Sebastian Armijos has quickly established himself as a crucial piece in the center of the pitch.

Looking Forward

With a smaller roster than many of their opponents, the Rams are placing extra emphasis on recovery and staying healthy as the season progresses.

“We do not have a big roster this year, so we will remain focused on recovery after games and making sure that we can give 100% when it comes to game time,” Coach Sumrall explained.

Ultimately, success for the Rams will be measured not only in wins but also in reaching the conference tournament and proving themselves as a top contender.

“We have a good group of guys all around this year,” Coach Sumrall said. “This team has the capability of making a run for the AAC championship.”

As the season kicks into full swing, the Rams are determined to turn their preparation into results on the pitch.
