Each year, Bluefield University proudly hosts the Rammy Awards, an evening dedicated to honoring the hard work, talent, and achievements of its student-athletes. The event celebrates excellence on and off the field with awards ranging from Newcomer of the Year, Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, and Academic Excellence Team Award to specialized recognitions like Pitcher of the Year, Setter of the Year, and Football Special Teams Player of the Year.

With student-athletes comprising 85 percent of the campus population, Harman Chapel was filled to capacity with teammates, coaches, and athletic staff, all cheering on their peers. Associate Athletic Director Jacob Key reflected on the importance of the Rammies and the sense of community it fosters.

“There are a few really special moments in the year—move-in day, graduation, and nights like this, when we get to celebrate all our student-athletes have accomplished both academically and athletically,” Key said.

This year marked a record-breaking season for Bluefield Athletics. A total of 18 student-athletes were named AAC Players of the Week—13 more than last year. Sixteen athletes have already earned All-Conference honors, with spring season results still pending. Most notably, 72 student-athletes were recognized as AAC Scholar-Athletes, setting a new university benchmark.

The Rammy Awards have grown into a highly anticipated tradition. Key, a BU alumnus, shared how the event has evolved.

“The Rammies have come a long way since I was a student,” he said. “From the excitement of the crowd to the videos and media coverage, it’s clear how much the students now look forward to it. It’s a night they truly feel seen and celebrated.”

Among the most prestigious awards of the night were Mr. and Miss Ram EFFORT, Coach of the Year, and Male and Female Athlete of the Year. The Ram EFFORT award—an acronym for Energy, Faith, Focus, Ownership, Respect, and Teamwork—recognizes athletes who embody the university’s core values. While each team selects a recipient, the titles of Mr. and Miss Ram EFFORT go to standout individuals across all sports.

Mr. Ram EFFORT: Kennison Moore (Football)
Miss Ram EFFORT: Elle Gunter (Women’s Basketball)

Coach of the Year honors went to Kevin John of Men’s Volleyball, who led his team to an impressive 15-11 overall record and a semifinal appearance in the AAC Conference Tournament.

University President Dr. Steve Peterson had the honor of presenting the Female and Male Athlete of the Year awards—two of the most coveted honors of the night.

Female Athlete of the Year: Joslyn Evans (Women’s Volleyball)
Evans had a standout season, leading her team with a .318 hitting percentage (4th in the conference) and 361 kills (6th per set). Her accolades include First Team All-Conference, AVCA All-Region NAIA First Team, and Second Team VaSID All-State.

“This award has shown me that I’ve underestimated myself,” Evans said. “I’m honored to be recognized among so many talented women. Bluefield Volleyball has helped me grow and find my confidence, and I wouldn’t be here without the support of this athletic community.”

Male Athlete of the Year: Quincy Robinson (Football)
Robinson had a dominant season, leading both the AAC and NAIA in sacks, and tying the single-season sack record. His relentless play earned him numerous honors, including AAC Defensive Player of the Year, AFCA NAIA Coaches All-American, and Defensive Player of the Year from CFB Network, among others.

To close the night, Athletic Director Corey Mullins thanked the student-athletes, coaches, and support staff who continue to build a culture of excellence at Bluefield University.

“Our athletes represent the best of what we strive for—commitment, discipline, and community,” Mullins said. “The Rammy Awards are our chance to say thank you and celebrate a remarkable year.”
