BU’s Cutler and Stergiou: From Baseball to Bowling

Bluefield University baseball players Dylan Cutler and Nick Stergiou have recently demonstrated their versatility by switching from the baseball diamond to the bowling alley. Both athletes spoke about the challenges and excitement of learning a new sport.
A senior infielder from North Fort Myers, Florida, Cutler has been a vital member of the Rams baseball team. He played in 25 games during the 2024 season, hitting .194 from the plate and recording six RBI and one stolen base. For him, switching to bowling has been a big adjustment.
“It’s a completely different rhythm and mindset,” Cutler shared. “In baseball, you’re reacting to pitches; in bowling, it’s all about consistency and technique. I’m enjoying the learning process and the good times with my teammates.”
Despite the challenges, Cutler has consistently improved his bowling game. His highest score since playing the sport is 229 (with a perfect score being 300).

Stergiou, a junior first baseman from Bluefield, Virginia, has also made bowling a passion. On the diamond in 2025, he’s contributed significantly, including a good performance against the top-ranked team the conference, Bryan College, where he went 2-4 from the plate with an RBI.
“Bowling offers a different kind of competition,” Stergiou noted. “It’s more about focus and precision.”
Stergiou, whose highest score since making the switch is 286, said, “I’m thrilled to see how my skills can translate from baseball to bowling”.
Despite their love of bowling, Cutler and Stergiou said they are most committed to their roles on the baseball team. In addition to providing a new challenge, their bowling participation brings together collaboration and personal growth.
