The cast members of Bluefield Youth and Community Theatre (BYCT) have been hard at work preparing to debut Finding Nemo, Jr. for both the campus community and the community at large.
Director Charles Reese believes this production is not to be missed and has a great story to tell.
“Finding Nemo is a show about learning to accept family, love, and being willing to see the potential that exists in children,” Reese said.
Reese also shared that this has been a unique cast to work with due to the young ages of many of the cast members. But their youth, he said, is not stopping them. Reese added that he believes the cast is doing an excellent job, and he can’t wait for everyone to see the final product of all the work they have been putting in. And even though it has not been easy, Reese said the hard work is paying off.
“As we get closer and closer to time for performance,” he said, “we see it begin to gel and take shape.”
Rehearsals have also been challenging to manage with so many campus activities in the last few weeks of classes. Reese is thankful for members of the Bluefield University family who have worked with BU Theatre to allow them the time and space to rehearse.
The cast members are excited to share the show, as well. Silas Fain, age 10, is playing Nemo. Other supporting characters include Cannon Smith, age 14, as Nemo’s dad, Marlin; and Blaire Anderson, age 15, as the spunky and forgetful sidekick Dory.
Smith said he is excited to share the show with young audience members and their parents. He said he can’t cannot wait to see their faces light up and the joy this live theatre experience brings. Anderson shared that she loves how “bright, fun, and bubbly” this show is. The entire cast and crew of Finding Nemo, Jr. is excited for everyone to see their production.
“It’s going to be a sweet, exciting, and adorable production,” Reese said. “Everybody needs to come out and see it.”
Show dates are Thursday through Saturday, May 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m.. Performances will take place in Harman Chapel. Tickets are available online.
