Bluefield University baseball is working toward a big upcoming season.

Even though the season is already in full swing, the Rams are on a roll with three straight wins to open the season at Carolina University in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The Rams dominated with wins of 12-3, 8-7 and 10-1. They now stand at 4-2 overall as of February 12, 2025.

Leading the Rams is head coach Mike White and assistant coach Garrett Schilling. Coach White talked about his hopes for the season in a very competitive Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

“The goals are always the same,” Coach White said. “Be one of the best teams in the toughest NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) baseball conference in America.”

He also spoke about returning players to keep an eye on.

“We have a very veteran team,” he said. “Some of those (veterans) are infielder Moises Aristy, infielder Dylan Cutler, outfielder Matt Beisecker, and outfielder Bryce Medlock.”

Along with the returning players, there are a few new players who should have an impact in 2025, including pitcher Ray Smith, infielder Jon Greenawalt, infielder Nick Stergiou, catcher Juan Almonte, outfielder Ray Garcia, pitcher Noah Laney, and pitcher Jaden Rose.

“The key players that should be looked at are pitcher Ty Wood, catcher Sean Seale, pitcher Gabe Delvalle, and infielder Andreas Vega.”

Seale shared how he’s keeping motivated for the season and what role he thinks he’ll play.

“Since I am a fifth-year senior this year and have been around college baseball for longer than most at this point, I do everything I can to set a good example for the team, especially the young guys,” Seale said. “My biggest motivator is trying to lead by example and pass on the lessons I’ve learned through consistent work ethic and helping shape the next generation of players to be not only good athletes, but honorable men that work hard and stay disciplined.”

Seale also has individual goals for the season. He was named an AAC Second Team All-Conference player last year, and he’d like to earn a spot on the First Team All-Conference list this season.

“Staying healthy is one of my biggest priorities, and I’ve made functional training and stretching a major priority,” Seale said. “Beyond myself, I want to help the team as much as I can and give myself and the team a chance to play deeper into the playoffs come May than what we were able to do last year.”

Delvalle, a senior right-handed pitcher from San Juan, Puerto Rico, transferred to Bluefield University last year for his junior season. He, too, has both individual and team goals for 2025.

“My goals this season are to be consistent throughout the whole season and win our conference,” said Delvalle, who’s also focused on getting back to his best form after sustaining an injury last year.

“I’m getting ready by doing rehab and working with the trainers to get my shoulder feeling healthy,” he said.

Fans are encouraged to come out to Bowen Field to support the Rams at home and follow the Rams on the road at burams.com.
