Student Profile: Liberty Wolf
Deciding to move 2,500 miles away from Sanger, CA, to Bluefield, VA, was worth it for student-athlete Liberty Wolf.
Wolf is a senior this year at Bluefield University and will graduate next spring with a Bachelor of Arts in English (concentration in literature) and a minor in criminal justice. She sees herself working with some form of writing in the future.
Wolf attended Reedley College in California where she received her associate’s degree in English in the spring of 2023. While looking for a college to complete her final two years, Wolf heard about Bluefield University.
”Bluefield was the only school [where] I was actually able to connect with my soon-to-be teammates,” said Wolf, a member of the BU women’s soccer team. “They were the sweetest girls.”
Wolf takes on a special role on the women’s soccer team. According to her team and coach, Wolf leads as an example of how an athlete should act on and off the field.
“She is the fire on the field that can carry us,” said BU women’s soccer coach Patrick Ritter about Wolf’s abilities. “Off the field, she is a very strong and outgoing individual that can show the team how to separate a competitive fire with a friendly atmosphere.”
Fellow teammate Macy McBride agreed.
”Her dedication and drive help keep everyone pushing forward,” McBride said.
Fellow teammate Savannah Holmes said, “I think Liberty fits into the team as a role model for how to treat others. Liberty is a natural leader and good with making people feel they are welcome and wanted in a place.”
Wolf also brings her enthusiasm into the classroom. Coach Ritter said she balances her life as a student-athlete by her mastery of organization and timeliness. Dr. Kim Farmer, dean of the School of Criminal Justice, added that Wolf is always present in the classroom and how her participation makes a difference.
Dr. Farmer recalled a recent example when Wolf was the first to volunteer as a jury member for a mock trial. She enjoyed the experience when she took the class and was willing to volunteer as a part of the jury so others could experience it, as well.
“That is the hallmark of a good student,” remarked Dr. Farmer. “She is doing everything she can do to take advantage of college.”
Coach Ritter only wishes he had coached Wolf for four years.
“There is always another level she is trying to achieve,” he said, “and with her strong will, she will figure out how to get there.”
