BU Gears Up for 2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season Amid Challenges
As the Bluefield University 2024-2025 men’s basketball season gets underway, Coach Richard Morgan is balancing optimism with the reality of a challenging pre-season. The Rams have faced several hurdles leading up to this season, but Morgan remains confident in his team’s potential to rise above adversity.
“We’ve had misfortunes with injury, transferring transcripts, a torn ACL, and one player who had open heart surgery,” Morgan explained. “There are going to be injuries, but I would’ve never imagined open heart surgery.”
Despite these setbacks, the team has continued to work hard and build momentum. Key returners like Elijah White, Donovan Martin, and Quantavis McKinney are expected to lead the charge this season.
“All of them have been working hard and have become leaders,” Morgan said, emphasizing the growth and leadership qualities that these players have demonstrated.
White said his main individual goal this season is to continuously improve and to contribute to the team in every way he can.
“Whether it’s enhancing my skills on the court, being a reliable teammate, or maintaining a positive mindset, I want to elevate my performance and our team dynamic,” White said.
White plans to lead by example in practices and games, striving to push himself and his teammates to new heights.
Among the fresh faces on the roster, Morgan highlighted freshmen Lenair Young and Jordan Lineberger as players to watch.
“Lenair Young, he can shoot the ball,” Morgan said. “Jordan Lineberger, he rebounds, and you know he can play a full game.”
Team chemistry is also a focal point for the Rams, and Morgan has noticed a strong bond developing both on and off the court.
“They hang out, they have channels of communication they use on their phones, and they have fun,” Morgan said. “Overall, seeing the way they play with each other proves their chemistry.”
White agreed, sharing how he thinks this year’s team chemistry seems to be stronger than ever.
“We have a great mix of experienced players and new talent, and everyone is committed to working toward the same goal,” White said. “The energy and enthusiasm we bring each day are contagious, and it’s exciting to see how much we’re pushing each other to become the best versions of ourselves.”
Morgan also praised the athleticism of his team, calling it one of the most dynamic groups he’s ever coached.
“We played one game; the opponent was D1 (NCAA Division I), but we had some dunks in that game. It was fabulous,” Morgan said, highlighting the high level of play the Rams have demonstrated in early games.
As for player development, Morgan is focused on using film analysis to help his younger players improve. When it comes to motivation, he said he doesn’t need to push his players too hard.
“I don’t have to,” he said. “Everyone on the team wants to get out on the floor and play hard. They know I demand their best and they give it.”
For fans, Morgan has one simple message: “Come out and support us. Come watch a game and see what we can do.”
White also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Bluefield University’s fans and community.
“To all the fans, we are so thankful for your continued encouragement,” White said. “Every practice, every game, every moment, we’re giving our all to make you proud. Your energy and passion motivate us, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on. Let’s make this season one to remember.”
As the Bluefield University basketball team faces the 2024-2025 season, the challenges they’ve faced have only strengthened their resolve. With a talented group of returners, promising newcomers, and a united chemistry, the Rams are ready to make an impact this season.
