A Look at Women’s Volleyball 2024

Digital Marketing & Sports Communication • 2026

Bluefield University women’s volleyball is on the road to having one of the most successful seasons in recent years. After starting the season with a strong 3-1 record at a tournament in Chicago and posting a 10-8 overall record so far (as of 10-04-24), the Lady Rams have set high expectations for what lies ahead.

“We have grown quite a bit during the early season,” head coach Buddy Gallemore said. “We are building chemistry on the floor, getting to know each other off the floor, and becoming a close group.”

This focus on teamwork and culture has been a priority for Gallemore, who has worked over the past two years to create a strong team culture, something this year’s group is achieving.

Every season, goals are set to help the team grow. Gallemore has set clear goals for this season, including contending for the conference championship and maintaining a 3.3 team grade point average (GPA).

“Our primary goals are to improve every day in practice, be good teammates, and if we do all those things, we are going to be successful” Gallemore said.

A number of veteran players are expected to play key roles in guiding the team to success in 2024, including Nayerly Jimenez, a setter who was named Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Setter of the Year in 2022 and Second Team All-Conference in 2023; Joslyn Evans, a middle blocker who led the team in kills last season with 368; and Georgia Lewis, a libero who led the team in digs and was First Team All-Conference last season. Newcomers Davina Lopez and Cylie Wong are also expected to contribute significantly this season; however, the Lady Rams are not focused on individual players, but instead on building a well-rounded team.

Senior leader Joslyn Evans.

“My expectation for this season is to be better than last season,” Evans said. “We have new people that bring new techniques and personalities. We also have a newer team mentality/motto of +E (positive energy), which I believe will really help us throughout the season.”

This being Evans’ last season, she has set some goals on how she would like to finish her career at BU.

“I hope to end the season with great memories and a smile whether we win or lose, because I know we all put our heart on the court for each other,” Evans said. “Of course, going far and winning conference would be the perfect outcome, but for me, making sure people end the season happy to be here and glad to be part of the team will be everlasting.”

Assistant coach Kyle Pietrzak highlighted this approach, stating, “We don’t have a number one hitter, but all our hitters can put the ball down when needed.”

This depth of talent, along with experienced starters, gives the Rams confidence heading into conference play.

“I see us easily getting to number one in the conference this year,” Pietrzak said, “and my main focus this year will be on the offense.”

With a good team culture and a clear focus on both personal and athletic growth, Bluefield University’s women’s volleyball team is ready to make its mark this season. Catch all the Lady Rams’ home action in the Dome Gymnasium. Follow the team on the road at burams.com.
