Bluefield University students will have the opportunity to elect new student leadership during Student Government Association (SGA) elections, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Shott Hall A&B.

To help students make informed decisions, the Rampage wanted to share a little information about each candidate.

Landon Breeden: Candidate for SGA President

Breeden is a native of Bluefield, Virginia, and is a rising junior graduating in 2026 with a major in Christian studies.

Breeden’s reason for running for president is to “advance the Gospel, promote spiritual growth on campus, and help create better communication between faculty, staff, students, and the local community.”

When asked why people should vote for him, Breeden said, “I believe that the Lord could use me to create a positive (and even lasting) impact on campus and in the community around us.”

Courtney Frame: Candidate for Vice President

Frame is from Narrows, Virginia, and is also a rising junior graduating in 2026 with a major in criminal justice and psychology.

“I’m running for SGA vice president because I feel like as an RA I see more insight on how a lot of things run here than the average student may not see,” Frame said, “and I feel like I have the means to stand up on behalf of the student body, as a student myself, for what we truly need to be satisfied and happy at this university.”

Frame added that people should vote for her because she plans to work alongside the SGA president and bring attention to the “right people” about what needs to be “fixed” at BU.

“Personally, I feel that Res Life (dorm life) needs massive change and improvement and not band-aid fixtures here and there,” Frame said. “I also feel that non-athlete students should be receiving more credit and benefits than what they are receiving here. This is just a start of what I plan to do for us.”

Jonathan Collier: Candidate for Secretary/Treasurer

Collier resides in Tazewell, Virginia, and is a rising senior graduating in 2025 with a major in cybersecurity.

“I am running for SGA secretary/treasurer because I love Bluefield University and our campus community,” Collier said. “I believe that SGA can help bring our campus closer together, promote understanding from both administration and students and unite us in pursuit of common goals.”

When asked why people should vote for him, Collier said, “I firmly believe that I have the skills and experience in communication, writing, documentation, and data management to serve Bluefield University’s community well as SGA secretary/treasurer, and I am eager to advocate for change across campus.”

BU students are encouraged to vote Wednesday, April 17 any time from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Shott Hall A&B to determine new SGA leadership for 2024-2025. While only one candidate is running for each of the three positions, each candidate must receive at least 100 votes to win their respective post. If a candidate does not receive at least 100 votes, the election process for that position must be restarted.
