Among the clubs available to Bluefield University students is the BU Missions Club, which is designed to spread the gospel and equip students with the resources and opportunities for mission work.
The Missions Club at BU began a couple years ago when Dr. Henry Clary, director of missions, decided to raise awareness of mission opportunities available to students.
“The Missions Club is an outgrowth of our historic annual Spring Break mission trips,” Dr. Clary said. “The Missions Club exists to promote involvement in God’s mission to the nations here at Bluefield. The spread of the gospel is central to the goal of the Missions Club.”
Michael Vichiola is a member of the Missions Club. He has participated in a mission trip to Ecuador. He said students should take advantage of the opportunities God gives them through BU to participate in missions.
“When you’re called, just say yes, and let him work through you.” Vichiola said. Michaela Rose, another Missions Club member, agreed.
“If you are thinking about missions…pray about it,” Rose said. “If you feel as if you have a calling to go, pray about it and follow what Jesus says.”
Students who have felt called to do missions work are encouraged to join the Missions Club, which meets in the Dan Macmillan Center on Faculty Row on campus. If you have questions about the club, contact Dr. Clary or club president Antowyne Shaw. If you’d like to support the club in different way, you can donate to club mission trips.
“This year there are three teams going on mission for Christ,” Dr. Clary said, “a church planting team to Madrid, Spain (March 3-11); a children’s ministry team to Quito, Ecuador (May 8-16); and our first-ever medical mission team to Lima, Peru (May 22-30).”
