Preview of Women’s Basketball 2022-2023

Graphic Communication • 2024

As we move through the fall and toward winter, the Bluefield University Lady Rams basketball team is heating up.

The team is led by first-year head coach Markell Cox, who has years of coaching experience, and assistant coach Andrea Stinson, a former WNBA All-Star and second-year assistant coach. On the court, the Lady Rams will rely heavily on veterans Kylie Meadows, a fifth-year senior forward from Beaver, WV, who is averaging 17 points and 8 rebounds per game already this year, and Emily Breeding, a junior guard from Abingdon, VA, who is averaging 11 points and 2 assists per game.

The Lady Rams have a new and up-and-coming player in freshman Chase Dionio, a guard from Newport Beach, CA, who is scoring 11 points and 4 rebounds per game in her first season with BU.

The Lady Rams have been working hard to prepare for this season, but according to Coach Markell you never know what to expect.

“You can never tell how prepared a team is until the games happen,” he said, “but I definitely think we are off to a good start. There has been a lot of learning involved, and we are getting better every day.”

The Lady Rams also have high hopes for how the team finishes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

“We are hoping to achieve a spot in the conference tournament and make it to the actual tournament host site,” Markell said. “That would be a major accomplishment.”

The Lady Rams have started the season 3-6 overall, including a 3-4 win-loss record in the AAC with wins over Brenau University on November 12, Union College on November 17, and Columbia International University on November 22. Be sure to support the Lady Rams at home in the Dome Gymnasium. Check out the home schedule and follow all other action at bcrams.com.
