Salmeier Named New Vice President of Academic Affairs

communications  • 2025

Dr. Michael Salmeier has joined the Bluefield University staff as the new vice president of academic affairs.

Dr. Salmeier began his collegiate studies at Life Pacific University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible theology. He later earned a master’s degree in New Testament and theology from Biola University before traveling to England to earn a master’s and doctorate degree in theology from the University of Oxford.

He would return to Life Pacific as a full-time faculty member for two years before moving on to teach at Asia Life University, Azusa Pacific University, and Biola University. After 20 years of teaching, he came back to Life Pacific as vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer for more than 13 years before accepting his new role at BU.

One big thing that Dr. Salmeier said he likes about academics is planning future programs for students and being able to make plans for students to be successful. He also said he likes to be able to “mold people into what God has called them to do.”

Dr. Salmeier added that he loves the people he has been able to meet since arriving in Bluefield and how kind they are. He said he hopes that during his time at Bluefield he will be able to build up the university and make Bluefield more than just a place that students come for an education, but also an institution that has a very positive impact on the community.

When Dr. Salmeier isn’t being the vice president of academic affair he is spending time with his family and attending sporting events.

“(I am) grateful for the opportunity to join the BU community,” said Dr. Salmeier in a BU press release. “I look forward to building on the work of Dr. (Marshall) Flowers (BU’s previous VP for academics) as we continue to foster a Christ-centered educational community preparing leaders to transform their world.”
