What is Prayer.30?

Communication and Theatre • 2020

Have you heard of Prayer.30? Just what is this event at Bluefield College? We thought we’d ask and share the details with BC students.

According to Dave Pedde, director of BC’s Center for the Worship Arts, Prayer.30 (prayer for 30 minutes) is an all-campus prayer gathering on Thursdays of every week at 12:15 p.m. in Harman Chapel. The campus community may also join the gatherings on Instagram Live.

“Every person in the Bluefield College campus community is welcome,” Pedde said. “Students, faculty, staff and administration (may) come for the full time or even to drop in for a few minutes.”

Pedde launched Prayer.30 in the fall of 2018 when he started working for the college. He said it’s an opportunity to have personal and corporate prayer and reflection. He said people can submit confidential prayer requests as well.

“Although prayer has been relegated to the status of ‘religious duty,’ it is simply talking with a friend – a best friend, in fact,” Pedde said. “One who knows, understands, and acts on (our) behalf. One who does not judge nor condemn. One who loves to engage in conversation. Lastly, one of the greatest gifts you can give someone else is simply to pray in secret for them.”
