NBA 2K21 is a basketball simulation video game that is developed by visual concepts and published by 2K Sports. This game is based on the National Basketball Association (NBA) with real players and teams. As the successor to NBA 2K20 this game was released on September 4, 2020 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and will be later released for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. This game has four different modes for users to play: PlayNow, MyTeam, MyCareer, and MyGM/MyLeague.

Rating

Gameplay: From previous games, shooting was a huge concern from the community. NBA 2K added a new “shot meter” and new “shot stick” analog that takes more skill to shoot on so it forces players to get used to it. Instead of shooting being a timing thing like previous NBA 2K games, players have the choice to aim their shots and shoot with more accuracy with the “shot stick.” However, this game has some fluidity and improvements to the gameplay. The “pro stick” gives players a more hands-on control of ball handling with players. This just makes the experience more fluid, and it triggers better animations. NBA 2K21 plays just like a real-life NBA game as far as player movements, fans, coaching, media, and other elements are concerned.

Graphics: The graphics on NBA 2K21 for current-gen is pretty much as good as it gets until the new game consoles release. Players on the game have the same features and bodies that they have in real life. The scenery of the court also gives you that real NBA experience. In NBA 2K21 they added the new 2K Beach for your created player, and it gives you the feel of basketball in the parks of Los Angeles.

PlayNow: The PlayNow game mode allows you to practice your skills and play competitively online or just against your friends at home. With this game mode you have access to use all 30 NBA teams, an All-Time version, or a team with the best players from each team. 2K also added the use of classic NBA teams so now fans can see that match-up between Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant or LeBron James. With this feature, players can also play the 1996 Chicago Bulls against the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers.

MyCareer: NBA 2K21 brought the fans a brand new story along with the brand new 2K Beach where you can play against your friends. You can also go to different stores and purchase different items for your player. In the MyCareer story, your player, “Junior,” is a high school star trying to fill the shoes of his late great father, “Duke.” Throughout this process, you select what college you want to attend and work your way to the NBA. Once you get to the NBA, your goal is just like everyone else, which is winning an NBA Championship and making it to the Hall of Fame.

MyTeam: MyTeam is one of the game’s most popular modes as it allows you to build your own dream NBA team from the ground up. It contains current NBA players as well as NBA legends, and you can team them up. This mode has different features that let you make your team better. You can also compete online against your friends’ personal MyTeam.

MyLeague/MyGM: This game mode allows you to pick an NBA or WNBA franchise and take them through a full NBA season to try to win a championship and create a dynasty. It also gives users a behind-the-scenes feel of an NBA franchise, allowing you to serve as a general manager (GM), drafting rookies, makiing trades for players, and signing free agents. You get the feeling of managing an NBA franchise and seeing what it takes to win an NBA Championship.

Overall Score: 7/10
