Sports Management • 2020

Bluefield College students will celebrate the release of another edition of The Bluestone Review with a spring debut reading and reception.

Under the direction of Dr. Rob Merritt, professor of English, the Bluestone Review is a literary magazine published annually by Bluefield College students. The publication includes creative nonfiction, poetry, short essays, fiction, song lyrics, artwork, photography, and other contributions submitted by BC students, faculty and staff, along with literary enthusiasts, young and old, professional and amateur, from the community.

Leading the way this year are four BC senior editors who are participating in an internship for English majors who wish to work on the Review: Hayley Moore, an English and music major; Sidney Smith, an English major; Carrington Hawthorne, an English and theatre major; and Clara Blevins, a graphic communication major.

“The internship is offered primarily to English majors, though we have had students from all majors work on the internship or volunteer,” said Moore, a second-year editor of the literary magazine.

Moore said the publication accepts submissions from anyone and everyone interested. She said they have received submissions from first-grade students, college students, retired veterans, published authors, and even artists.

“The Bluestone Review accepts all types of art, including but not limited to poetry and prose, photography, sketching, and song lyrics,” Moore said.

The Review is published every spring semester, and this year’s publication with be the 27th edition when it is debuted during the reception in the Student Activities Center in Shott Hall on April 21 at 7 p.m.

“Everyone is encouraged to attend and enjoy some music and refreshments while we share art and literature featured in this edition,” Moore said.

During the premiere reading and reception, contributors to The Bluestone Review will be offered the opportunity to read or share their pieces. Copies of the publication also will be available for sale.
