Wilder Thankful for His BC Experience
Bluefield College senior quarterback Aidan Wilder is not your typical BC football player, and the way he ended up being a Ram is not the typical recruiting story.
Originally from Oregon, Wilder previously played football at Linfield College where he graduated in the spring of 2019. After graduating, he put his name out there to be a graduate transfer football player, and Bluefield College called his name.
“For my last season of college ball, I just wanted a change of scenery,” Wilder said, “and to try something new.”
As a graduate transfer, Wilder was eligible to play for the Rams right away for the fall 2019 regular season. That was exactly what head football coach Dewey Lusk was looking for.
“We were looking for somebody to compete for the starting (quarterback) job and bring experience to our football team,” Coach Lusk said, “and that is exactly what Aidan brought to our team.”
Not only did Wilder compete for the starting QB job, but he won it and was named the starter. He went on to start every game at QB for the Rams in 2019 and was named Second Team All-Midsouth Conference at quarterback. In fact, he is the first QB in BC history to be named to the All-Conference team.
“He is always level headed, really smart and made plays when we needed him to,” said sophomore teammate Matt Trevillian.
Wilder also set the BC single season record for passing yards with 2,190 yards and the single season record for touchdowns with 29 total TDs.
“He came into practice every day ready to work,” Coach Lusk said, “and I am really glad he was a part of our football team.”
Fellow senior Tyrice Henry, who played safety for the Rams, said Wilder even helped the defense prepare during the week by the way he challenged them in practice.
“I appreciated his work ethic and the way he never complained,” Henry said. “This program will miss him.”
Even though Wilder’s playing career is finished he said he is looking to stay involved with football and use the knowledge he has gained over the years to continue playing or coaching the sport.
“I’m glad that I came here and had this experience at BC,” he said “It will be something that I will take with me for the rest of my life, and it was overall good.”
