Cheers to 100 Years
In 2022, Bluefield College will celebrate an important milestone: its 100th anniversary.
Bluefield College first opened its doors to students in September 1922. Dr. R.A Lansdell served as the first president of the college. Dr. Lansdell directed the construction of the college’s first buildings, assembled the first faculty, and gathered funds for the college.
Plans to celebrate the college’s 100 years of service are currently in the works. BC staff members from the Alumni and Advancement offices are working closely with President David Olive to plan the celebration.
“Dr. Olive is starting to form a committee consisting of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of BC to begin the planning stages of the centennial celebration,” said BC’s Nicole Kaklis, director of alumni relations. “Paula Beasley (director of library services) is starting to collect and organize some of our memorabilia, and I believe she is planning a display in the library.”
Organizers say the event will be something that the entire BC community can look forward to, and that the best is yet to come for Bluefield College.
“We are definitely looking forward to a big celebration to commemorate this landmark anniversary for Bluefield College,” Kaklis said. “We will be sharing many stories highlighting the historical timeline of the college.”
