The Future of Campus Recreational Facilities
One aspect of campus that Bluefield College students say they would like to see improved is the area of indoor recreational facilities.
Currently, students who are looking for indoor recreation options have just the facilities available in the Student Activities Center (SAC) annex. However, according to students and even Bluefield College president Dr. David Olive, those facilities do not meet the recreation and wellness needs of the growing student body.
Dr. Olive said plans are to build a new health and wellness complex alongside the Dome Gymnasium once the school gets proper funding for the project. The wellness complex will provide locker rooms and fitness areas for students, athletes, and members of the Bluefield community to use for athletic and wellness activities.
“My sense is that the shared desire of the BC community is for the proposed wellness center to include a fitness facility that meets the needs of our athletic teams and would be available for general student use, as well,” said Josh Arnold, associate vice president for Student Development. “This would likely replace the annex, as it would be considerably more robust.”
Regarding outdoor recreational space, the construction of recreational fields is underway on the south portion of campus. The completion of those fields will provide additional opportunities for student recreation. Read more about the south campus recreational fields project at bcrampage.com.
