The Bluestone Review to Debut 26th Edition

General Music and English Writing • 2020

Bluefield College will celebrate the release of the 26th edition of The Bluestone Review on April 23 during a reading and reception at 7 p.m. in the Student Activities Center (SAC).

The debut event will also feature a performance from BC’s Jazz Band at 6:30 p.m. while refreshments are shared among contributors and friends.

The Bluestone Review was established in 1994 and is an annual, student-produced literary magazine that features poems, fiction, creative non-fiction, children’s works, song lyrics and raps, photographs, paintings, and drawings by Bluefield College students and alumni, as well as contributors from the community and across America.

“People should come to the reception for a chance to see contributors share their work and support writers in the area,” said student editor of two years Mary Jones, a senior English and theatre double major.

The reception and debut reading will allow the contributing writers and artists to not only come together to see this year’s publication for the first time, completed and ready for distribution, but also to share their works by reading their contributions or discussing the stories behind their art or photography.

The faculty advisor for the magazine is Dr. Rob Merritt, professor of English. He said he is very excited about this edition of the Review, saying, “I just think it’s great.” Dr. Merritt also encourages the community to attend the reception on April 23.

The staff for the 26th edition are Jones; Hayley Moore, editor of one year and English and music senior; Jordyn O’Saben, graphics and layout editor of one year and graphic communication senior; and Allen Roberts, graphics and layout editor of one year and assistant professor of communication.

The Bluestone Review staff said it would like to thank all contributors to this year’s publication, commending everyone for putting so much of their hearts and souls into sharing their stories, whether through verbal or visual artwork.

“It’s always an honor to be recognized as a writer/lyricist,” said Jeff Moore, a 2019 contributor, “but an even greater honor to get published in the Bluestone Review.”
