Question of the Week: BC Food Service
Food service at colleges and universities is always a big topic of discussion among students. That’s why we asked students, faculty and staff what they think about the food service at Bluefield College.
“I live off campus now so I don’t go to the café as much as I used. When I do it is usually for breakfast when I haven’t eaten before I went to class. When I used to live on campus I used to eat the grille side, like chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and French fries. The other side was only good on some days. I never had any problems with the café workers, but sometimes they did say the football team got too loud and so we had to do up downs as punishment.” — junior Demarcus Wimbush
“I like the convenience of the salad bar, and that I know what I am getting with that. But other foods can be over cooked or under cooked and hard to eat. I have a full meal plan so I try to go as much as I can. The workers in the café are very nice, and it is easy to get through the line.”
— freshman Eva Waddell
“I only have 100 swipes to work with so I am careful with the days I go. Breakfast is always good, and then I pick and choose what days to go for lunch and dinner. I like the way they make chicken, tacos, and lasagna. I try to avoid when they make casseroles or anything that I don’t know the name of. Them sending out the menu through email helps me a lot. And I love the café workers; Miss Nancy and Miss Sharon are my favorite.” — senior Tyrice Henry
“I think the cafeteria is generally clean and has an ample variety of food choices. I believe the space is not big enough anymore for the amount of people using it at peak times. Everyone is waiting in line for something…I think it needs more space allowing for a better configuration of food distribution. As far as the food goes, I usually eat from the cold bar…The main food is okay, but not great. I like some of the things they prepare at the trends station and think they could do more of that. I do not eat from the salad bar (although I should), but it appears to have many choices and the food is fresh…I try not to eat from the grille, but when I do it is usually good. I love the soups they prepare and desserts. I have a love/hate relationship with the desserts as I know I should not be eating them, but they are so good.” — Dr. Kevin Downer, assistant professor of exercise and sport science
“I like to eat chicken nuggets and fries and they usually have that. I am picky eater so I don’t eat anything on the other side of the café. I do like the ice-cream section though, that was clutch that they got that.”
