Student Events this Spring

Communications & Graphic Communications • 2020

Are you curious as to what is happening on campus this semester? In addition to athletic events, there are many other opportunities created by the Student Activities Leadership Team (SALT) to keep students involved this semester.

“Student Activities is really excited about some of the events we have going on this semester,” said Kalin Folden, Student Activities Leadership Team (SALT) president. “As a team, we kicked this semester off really strong with some tricky and terrific Trivia Nights and moved quickly on to all the romance that February brought with our first annual Dating Game show, to Valentine’s Day and more.”

SALT has scheduled a number of other events for students in March. Each Monday, they will host career service workshops in the Student Activities Center (SAC), including two sessions a day from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 11, 18, and 25. The first workshop will cover how to write a resume, the second will cover how to write a cover letter and a review of resumes, and the third will cover interview tips and mock interviews.

“I am really excited to be able to offer the career service series in partnership with the ACE (Academic Center for Excellence) for our students to help them get jobs,” said Anne Pelchar, director of Student Engagement.

Another big event in March is BC’s Got Talent, scheduled for Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in Harman Chapel. Students are encouraged to sign up for auditions now using the online application at bit.ly/bctalentapp or by contacting Pelchar by email at anne.pelchar@bluefield.edu

“We’re really excited to see what the rest of this semester holds,” Folden said, “from Career Service Mondays in March, a time in which students can come prepare a resume, cover letter, and go through a mock interview, to seeing some of our amazing faculty during our Faculty Spotlight Mondays in April.”

Faculty Spotlights will be every Monday in April during which time a faculty member will show off one of their passions and educate students on it. Students are also invited to a Paint Night during the month of April. The date and time of this event is still to be determined.

The most anticipated event of the year, Mud Pig Day,  is scheduled for Thursday, April 25. Mud Pig Day occurs after the last day of classes and right before final exams. As always, the tradition will include a big lunch, a mud pit, water slide, inflatable games, and a few other fun activities.

“Overall, as a team, we are really excited to see our faculty, staff, and friends of the community come out and have a blast with us throughout the rest of this semester,” Folden said.
