College Enjoys Record Enrollment
Bluefield College is celebrating its largest incoming class in school history with the enrollment of 278 new traditional students this fall – an 11 percent increase over last year’s freshman class.
According to Matthew Hamilton, director of traditional admissions, the college has enjoyed steady growth in recent years and should continue to see growth over the next few years, thanks to new programs and other initiatives.
“We are seeing such growth in our numbers because of stellar team work from all respective areas and offices campus-wide (Admissions, BC Central, Athletics, Student Development),” said Hamilton. “Bringing in such a large incoming class takes all hands on deck.”
Hamilton added that he’s thankful to be a part of the historic enrollment numbers at Bluefield College, particularly since he’s only been a part of the BC family for 10 months.
“It feels amazing to be a part of the growth and expanding vision of Bluefield College,” he said.
Students in this fall’s incoming class came from 28 different states, but the majority came from Virginia. Most of the incoming students said they chose Bluefield College because of its athletic programs.
“I saw it as a chance to get away from negative influences and to focus on the bigger picture,” said Armon Epps, a freshman who came to BC to play football.
College leaders hope to continue to see growth since part of the school’s Strategic Plan is “to grow enrollment by five percent each year.” According to Hamilton, plans are already in place to help ensure that growth.
“There are various projects in the works to help contribute to our future growth to which I am unable to comment at this time,” he said.
Bluefield College is growing, and this fall’s record enrollment is proof of that. As campus facilities and academic programs grow, so does the number of students, thanks to a dedicated Admissions team and a faculty ready to recruit students and help them find their home at Bluefield College.
